HitG Notebook
Many of the athletes and scientists featured in Head in the Game say that what they are doing has the potential to change the world. I am generally averse to such grandiose claims, but in this case, they are more right than they are wrong. I am humbled and awed by the work being done in the...

Here’s a video mentioned in Chapter 13 of HEAD IN THE GAME, “Gaming the Brain.” In this vid, Cristiano Ronaldo heads a ball into the net even as the world turns pitch black. It’s a video that NeuroTracker pitch man and CogniSens CEO Jean Castanguay showed me while we sat on the couch in his...

Had a most excellent time talking Steph Curry, neurocognitive efficiency, and HEAD IN THE GAME with Mico Halili for CNN Philippines’ Sports Desk today.   .@brandonsneed takes a closer look at Steph Curry’s mental training. https://t.co/toRCuyScDk pic.twitter.com/ckPKxLOSDy — CNN Philippines (@cnnphilippines) March 7, 2017

Many thanks to Sports Illustrated for running this excerpt from Head in the Game. It’s about how great athletes are using EEG technology to study and train their brains, much like they use film, personal trainers, and the like the study and train their bodies and their skills. Beyond their sports, too, it is having profound...

HarperCollins just posted a first look at the inside of Head in the Game, including the title pages, chapter breakdowns, and, best of all, the Prologue and Chapter 1. This is where this book process of rolling out the book gets kind of emotional and scary for me, because this is where it gets personal....

It started a few different places, really, but what it boiled down to was love. It all boiled down to love. I loved my wife. I loved my son. And now I already love the new one growing in my wife’s belly. And I just didn’t feel strong enough, or patient enough, or … just...

Back in the fall, Urban Meyer and his wife Shelley graciously welcomed me into their lives so that I could tell the story of Urban’s battle with what we call “mental illness” for B/R Mag. The result was “I’m Not the Lone Wolf,” which ended up going viral. With Head in the Game coming out, and since...

This little guy was an enormous driving force behind my writing HEAD IN THE GAME. I don’t want to spoil the book so I won’t say much more than that — except to tease this: HEAD IN THE GAME is, first and foremost, about amazing, secret things the world’s greatest athletes are doing to change...

Greetings

Hey, I'm Brandon, this is the HitG blog, where we go beyond the book to explore This Stuff and stay up to date on the greater HitG universe, share stories of HitG readers figuring out how to get their own heads in the game (sorry, that pun is just too easy and fun), and generally goof off a little. Oh and it's free and always will be. Don't try to pay me, I won't let you.

What is “This Stuff”?

There are so many tools for "mental engineering" — just getting the mind right, really — that there is no single clean label, so I’ve gone with the extremely scientific term This Stuff.

Book Me

I do, however, accept money for speaking engagements (albeit begrudgingly). I'd really love to do this stuff for free because I think it's amazing, but alas, I also feel compelled to contribute to my family's food, shelter, and general merriment. I speak to groups of all sizes, ages, levels of sport, and so on. Basically, I can tailor my talks to anyone. (I got my head in the game like that. Sorry! See?! I can't help myself.)

What’s Your Story?

I'd love to hear your stories about getting your head right. Contact us using the link above.
